the existence of our friend, journalism.

journalism has always been a neccessity. it will continue to be one, since it is how we get the news. but in coming days and past ones, as well, our journalism has been dwindling down in some form or fashion. in many ways, it seems as though all of the journalism is focusing on one or two outlooks; TV and the Internet. thats fine, but what will happen to the newspapers? some people out there like myself actually enjoy reading the newspaper. the paper is now online! so what if they start to think, "Well, since we have the paper online, then why waste time printing out the same thing?" i hope that it doesnt come down to that. to me, the newspaper is not a dead art form. its the oldest and greatest.
now dont get me wrong..i also enjoy reading about news online. i dont know what it is! i guess it is because we are all so used to technology these days, we gravitate towards it. also, people dont have to go find a computer to read the news on..it goes to their cell phones now! can you believe it?? the world seems to be becoming this gigantic technological place.
in about 10 to 15 years, i honestly believe that there wont be anymore newpaper :( and that everything will become an online resource. i think that TV news will still be around, but just not as popular. i dont think that there will be as many news stations around.
in my field of study (sports broadcasting/PR), i hope it will still be strong! people love to hear about their sports. its just not the same, reading about sports online. so maybe just maybe my study wont be affected much. i dont know how well magazines will do with news. they could just become about music, fashion, gossip, etc. [kind of like they are now.]
so if i had to guess, journalism, down the road, will become all technological: online, cell phones, a couple of TV stations...oh journalism.

have a nice day :)

hello mrs ladyyy.

if i had a question to ask Dr. Shirley Raines, i think it would quite possibly be:

i see that you graduated from the university of tennessee. you know that that is memphis' rival school! so what made you decide to come to the other side?

have a nice day :)

good lead. bad lead.

"singing the blues, again--Memphis no. 2 on misery index."
http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2009/feb/06/singing-blues-again/

the way i feel about this hard lead is that its not as hard as a ton of bricks. there is a tad bit of anecdotal life to it. i like this lead because it gets to the point in the first paragraph, and yet it shows its anecdotal self in the second.

if i could guess what the most important part of this story, that the reporter is trying to get across, is just the fact that memphis came in second place. it almost seems as though he was quite shocked. maybe we all were.

"grizzlies' mayo to H-O-R-S-E around at all-star weekend."
http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2009/feb/10/grizzlies-mayo-be-h-o-r-s-i-n-g-around-all-star-we/

anecdotal this is. the title is even creative. i like how in the first paragraph, the reporter lets you know that o.j. is in the all star game, but he doesnt mention the other players until later. for all sports folk, this column is an attention grabber.

the reporter seems to think that the most important part to the story are the players. i agree.

thank you :)

the purpose.

to me, the purpose of journalism is:

  • to gives ones opinion.
  • to provide information for others.
  • to be the truth.
  • to serve as a monitor.
  • expression :)
